Elon Musk's social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), has filed a lawsuit against the Indian government, challenging the expansion of online content censorship powers.

The lawsuit contends that India's Ministry of Information Technology has unlawfully broadened its authority, enabling numerous officials to issue content removal orders through a recently introduced government portal.

X argues that this system bypasses established legal safeguards, potentially leading to unchecked censorship.

This legal action represents a significant escalation in the ongoing tensions between X and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration over digital content regulation.

The case is scheduled for a hearing in the Karnataka High Court on March 27.
