The first person has been sentenced in the federal case connected to the 2023 ketamine overdose death of actor Matthew Perry. On December 3, 2025, Dr. Salvador Plasencia was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for distributing the controlled substance.
The licensed physician, who operated an urgent care clinic, admitted to providing ketamine to Perry and teaching the actor's personal assistant, who had no medical training, how to administer it.

In a text exchange with another doctor, which was highlighted by prosecutors,
Plasencia wrote about Perry, "I wonder how much this moron will pay."
While Plasencia did not supply the specific dose that led to Perry's death, his actions were described by the court as a criminal exploitation of addiction for profit, rather than legitimate medical care. At sentencing, he offered an apology, stating, "I should have protected him."
Dr. Plasencia is the first of five co-defendants to be sentenced. He has voluntarily surrendered his medical license.
The cases against the other defendants, who have all pleaded guilty, are still pending.
