The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has introduced a new social media policy aimed at regulating online content and rewarding influencers.

The Uttar Pradesh Digital Media Policy, 2024, recently approved by the state cabinet, was developed by the state's information department. It allows influencers to earn up to ₹8 lakh per month for promoting government schemes, while also imposing strict penalties for posting 'anti-national' or defamatory content.

The policy has set up a digital agency called 'V-Form' to manage advertising efforts, including the display of videos, tweets, posts, and reels. Influencers are categorized based on their followers or subscribers, with different payment caps for content on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

The payment structure varies by platform and content type, with YouTube creators eligible for up to ₹8 lakh per month, and other creators receiving payments based on the nature of their content.
