This request was made by South Africa to the United Nations' highest court, the ICJ urging for urgent measures to be taken against Israel's military actions in Rafah, which are deemed as threatening the survival of Palestinians in Gaza. It's the fourth time South Africa has sought additional measures, following its filing of a genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
The plea argues that previous orders by the court have not adequately addressed the severity of the situation in Gaza. Israel contends that its actions are in defense against Hamas militants.
South Africa is demanding Israel's withdrawal from Rafah, guaranteed access for humanitarian efforts in Gaza, and a report on compliance within a week.

What is ICJ?
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN). It settles legal disputes between states and gives advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by the UN and its specialized agencies.
The ICJ is located in The Hague, Netherlands, and consists of 15 judges elected by the UN General Assembly and the Security Council. It plays a crucial role in promoting peaceful resolution of international conflicts through the application of international law.
