Pension: SC seeks personal appearance of Chief Sect of 17 states on pension of retired judicial officers

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra is scheduled to hear the case on Tuesday, following a petition from the All India Judges Association along with 22 other similar petitions. The petitioners are seeking the implementation of welfare measures and other benefits for former judges and judicial officers.

The Supreme Court had previously summoned top bureaucrats from several states, including Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Bihar, Haryana, and Odisha, to appear before it.

On August 22, senior advocate K Parameshwar, who serves as the amicus curiae in this matter, argued before the court that 18 states and Union Territories have yet to fully implement the recommendations of the SNJPC, despite multiple orders being issued.


The bench expressed its concern over the non-compliance with its orders and mandated the personal appearance of the highest-ranking officials.
