It's surprising that the NTA, a private organization, determines the future of students seeking admission to publicly funded government institutions.
Not being subject to the RTI Act means there's no access to information.
The lack of public oversight results in no accountability.

Lack of Accountability in NTA's RoleThis allows the government and ministry to avoid responsibility for any scandals.

Amid the NEET UG exam controversy, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has highlighted the need for reform within the National Testing Agency (NTA). On June 22, 2024, the government announced a high-level committee to ensure the transparency and fairness of examinations. Led by Dr. K Radhakrishnan, former ISRO chairperson, the panel will review and recommend improvements to the NTA’s procedures and data security.
The NTA was established in 2017 to address the inefficiencies of state-level exam bodies and streamline the exam process for students. It conducts numerous national-level exams, including JEE Main and NEET-UG. Despite its role, the NTA has faced several controversies, including hacking incidents and technical glitches, which underline the necessity for reform and better oversight.
The NTA’s selection of exam centers involves rigorous checks and background evaluations to ensure quality and security. However, ongoing issues underscore the need for continuous improvement, which the newly formed expert panel aims to address.
