The Allahabad High Court has issued a directive to the state government, demanding a response within three weeks concerning the proliferation of battery rickshaws operating haphazardly across all cities within the state.
The court inquired about the existence of guidelines regulating the operation of these battery rickshaws in numerous cities and requested details on measures taken to mitigate the issues encountered by the public as a result.
This directive was issued by the division bench comprising Chief Justice Arun Bhansali and Justice Vikas on Wednesday following a presentation by advocate Saurabh Singh on behalf of Manoj Kumar Chaudhary from Meerut.
The court has scheduled the next hearing on the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) for May 23. During the PIL hearing, Advocate Saurabh Singh informed the court about the rampant operation of unregistered battery rickshaws in every city of the state, lacking guidelines and fixed routes.
Consequently, these rickshaws operate indiscriminately, contributing to traffic congestion and accidents in densely populated areas.
Additionally, the filing of petitions directly in the Allahabad High Court from districts, starting with Prayagraj, will now be facilitated, eliminating the need to approach the Principal Bench or the Lucknow Bench for filing petitions.
