The Centre has approached the Supreme Court to seek a review of its August 14 judgment by a 9-judge constitution bench.

This decision allowed mineral-rich states such as Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh to collect retrospective dues, including royalty and tax on mineral-bearing lands, from April 1, 2005, over a period of 19 years, from the Centre and mining leaseholders.

The Centre is requesting an urgent hearing, citing significant "errors" in the judgment and warning that its implementation would impose a substantial financial burden.
