The Bar Association of Calcutta High Court has informed the Chief Justice that it will abstain from attending Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay's bench starting Tuesday. This decision stems from an incident where a lawyer was allegedly mistreated and sent to civil custody for contempt of court during a hearing. A division bench granted an interim stay on Justice Gangopadhyay's order, allowing a lawyer's letter to be treated as an appeal.
The Bar Association, in a letter to Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam, expressed concerns about the ''extreme insult'' to the lawyer and declared their decision not to attend Justice Gangopadhyay's court until an apology is issued.
