Calcutta HC on Attack on ED in WB

Today, the Calcutta High Court has established a collaborative Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and West Bengal Police (WBP) to examine the assault on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials that occurred in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, on January 5th.

Justice Joy Sengupta of the High Court issued the directive for the formation of the SIT, which will operate under the supervision of the Calcutta High Court. The court has mandated the handover of all pertinent case documents to the SIT by tomorrow.

The SIT is expected to present its findings on February 12th.

The attack on an ED team transpired at the hands of supporters of Sahajahan Sheikh, a local leader and Karmadhyakshya of Zila Parishad affiliated with the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). As of now, Sahajahan Sheikh remains unapprehended.

"The SIT will have super rank officer of both CBI and West Bengal police. Police from Nazat police station will not be included in the SIT. Without intimating the court, the SIT cannot submit any final report of the probe," said sources from High Court.


Sandeshkhali is a locality situated in the North 24 Parganas district of the Indian state of West Bengal. North 24 Parganas is one of the districts in the eastern part of the state and is known for its diverse cultural, historical, and geographical features. Sandeshkhali, being part of this district, likely shares in the region's cultural and economic characteristics.
